We were excited to welcome Ewan Stinson in January of this year to join the Allsop team on placement from his degree at Queen’s University. I asked him a few questions to get an insight into what it is like being a placement student here at Allsop.

What course are you currently studying?

I am currently studying Computer Science at Queen’s University Belfast.

What made you choose your degree?

I’ve always had an interest in computers and problem solving. I have a few family members that work in IT and was introduced to the sector when I was quite young.

I also studied a Foundation Degree in Software Engineering at Belfast Met which helped me branch further into a development role.

What has your role been at Allsop as a placement student?

I am working with the mobile team and currently developing within the Geopal platform, primarily using Javascript. I also manage Geopal related support issues through a support desk and would have regular contact with customers.

What were your first impressions of working at Allsop?

When I first started my placement, I found everyone so welcoming and friendly to work with. Especially being a smaller company it felt almost like a family, as you got to know each other quickly and I felt settled in straight away.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I enjoy staying active and recently took up running again, when I found out my colleagues had an interest as well. I also have a passion for music and have been learning piano for the last few months.
